Shared tools, experiences and means

Initiated by CHANEL, The TRaceability Alliance for Sustainable CosmEtics (TRASCE) brings together cosmetics industry brands and suppliers to enhance traceability across the entire cosmetics value chain. The consortium is supported by the FEBEA (Fédération des Entreprises de la Beauté).

The cosmetics industry relies on complex and multi-tiered supply chains, which have been further exposed by recent global health, climate, and geopolitical events, making it essential to gain additional transparency and mitigate the associated risks. In response to these challenges and the increasing stringency of regulations (French Duty of Vigilance, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, European Deforestation Regulation, and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive), companies are driven to meet compliance requirements and accelerate their transition to a more sustainable and resilient model.

To meet this ambition, the TRASCE consortium provides a unified and collective approach through a common traceability tool, Transparency One, an ISN Company. By joining forces, we can share best practices, harmonize standards, and drive positive change across the entire industry.

The initiative gladly welcomes new brands and suppliers to join, under the Consortium Working Group Agreement, and help shape the future of traceability in the cosmetics industry.

History of TRASCE

  • 2019 – 2021

We began laying the groundwork for what would become a truly transformative consortium. It all started with CHANEL’s commitment to trace the origins of its supply chains and suppliers’ request to gather the industry around one traceability tool and mutualize data declaration requirements. Quickly, it became clear that this effort would be far more impactful if we tackled it together, at industry level.

  • 2022

TRASCE was officially established with the help of FEBEA as an industry unifier. This marked a pivotal moment where our collective vision turned into actionable plans to drive real change. We set objectives and implement Transparency-One, to collect supply chain data.

  • 2023

TRASCE officially launched with 15 Founding Members, each bringing their unique expertise and resources.

  • March 2023 – April 2024

    Main achievements after Year 1

    • A structured governance: the TRASCE constitution defines governance and voting procedures for transparent decision-making.
    • A common ambition: a shared strategy and key performance indicators (KPIs) help assess traceability progress.
    • A joint prioritization: resources to be traced are prioritized collectively for greater efficiency and impact.
    • A shared methodology to assess the traceability & transparency all along the supply chain: a common scoring system was developed for traceability and transparency across the supply.
    • A unified voice: the first onboarding webinar brought together 700 suppliers, strengthening alignment and engagement.
    • A risk analysis best practices benchmark: a benchmark of best practices for risk analysis across members’ methodologies was conducted to identify key insights and common best practices.
  • March 2024 – April 2025

    Main achievements after Year 2

    • We were thrilled to welcome three new members: Expanscience, Naos, and Groupe Rocher, to accelerate the sustainable transformation of the industry.
    • We launched a supply chain transformation pilot initiative: we leveraged a “test and learn” approach on two commodities to address social and environmental risks and implement collective remediation actions.

TRASCE’s Values

Commitment to Traceability

Every member of TRASCE is deeply committed to making traceability a priority, not only because it is essential for our operations, but because we believe it’s critical to the future of the cosmetics industry. This commitment drives us to invest significant resources to achieve our ambitious goals, not merely to meet minimum standards but to set new ones.

Shared Vision for Sustainable Transformation

Our commitment to traceability is just the first step in our shared ambition: transforming the cosmetics sector, with sustainability at the core of that transformation. We’re focused on gaining deep insights and actionable data about our supply chains to drive meaningful change, ensuring every aspect of our operations aligns with our environmental and social responsibility.

Unified Philosophy of Supplier Dialogue

Achieving our goals requires more than individual or internal efforts. Through open dialogue, we support suppliers in their own sustainability journey, aligning the entire value chain with our sustainability goals. This collaborative approach not only strengthens our partnerships but also ensures that the transformation we seek is truly comprehensive.

These shared values form the foundation of TRASCE’s mission. They guide every decision we make and every action we take, ensuring that we are always moving forward together, with purpose and unity.
